Attacking Anxiety and Depression with Self Esteem

How Anxiety and Depression Works on Our Mind

In attacking anxiety and depression, we must understand how it works to change our thinking process and how we see reality. When we experience extreme emotional need for a prolonged period, it does more than cause us pain; it tells us something about ourselves.

First, it may tell us that our need is unattainable and we can never get that need met. It may tell us our dreams are unrealistic and we can never be truly happy. It can also tell us having desires of happiness and fulfillment is wrong, and even having our feelings are wrong as well.

Anxiety Causes include Low Self Esteem

The first way for attacking anxiety and depression is to examine our self esteem, and what we feel we deserve to have. Attacking anxiety and depression will be impossible if we have an inner conflict of guilt and yearnings for that which we have been taught is wrong to have, such as prosperity, or love.

If we somehow were to achieve happiness, we would feel we did not deserve it and eventually our guilt will cause our happiness to fail. This subconscious sabotaging of our life will serve to strengthen the message that we do not deserve happiness, and that all happiness is temporary at best.

Questioning such painful assumptions we have made about ourselves is critical as we begin attacking anxiety and depression in an effective way. Anxiety and depression are like a swarm of wasps that go after us as we go outside our home of comfort and isolation, to pursue a better life.

Here is where we begin attacking anxiety and depression: The problem is not our state of anxiety or an emotional condition of depression, for those are only symptoms. If you took drugs, hypnosis, or any other cure for the symptoms, the root cause would remain intact and soon the symptoms would return.

In attacking anxiety and depression, we must get to the real problem, and the real source. That source would not be the wasps, but the wasp nest under the eaves of our roof, where they lay in wait for us to venture out into their space and disturb them.

Therefore, what we are going to do in attacking anxiety and depression, which are only symptoms, the wasps, is we are going to remove the wasp nest from under our roof’s eave. If we destroy the wasp nest, we destroy the wasps.

Getting them before they become airborne is the only way to do it. How do we do that? We attack the shame and false reality that shame has taught us is the real world. Question the painful lies we have believed all our life about our self.

Attacking anxiety and depression means questioning the truth of the experiences that shamed us. It also means questioning our weaknesses and limitations to see if they are legitimate, or imagined.

In attacking Anxiety and Depression, every time we step out of our comfort zone, our wasps will sting us as we try to better our life. Our low self esteem and shame are telling us that we do not deserve happiness, and self sabotage results. Our low self esteem is the wasp nest, and it will send out wasps every time we try to better our self and go outside to enjoy the full life we deserve to have!

If we change our self esteem so that we feel we deserve a good life, our confidence grows. When our confidence grows our enthusiasm returns and the stress that comes from attempting the things we want will vanish. Isn’t that what is causing our anxiety and depression is the difficulty doing the things we need to do to bring us happiness?

Learning skills at dealing with stress will do us no good. That is like learning to deal with wasp stings we incur. We need to build our self esteem to learn we deserve to have a fully nurtured life. That means we have a right to do the activities that bring us happiness, such as engaging in deep relationships without guilt.

You deserve to be on your porch enjoying your outside, interacting with the social and financial world. Moreover, the wasps of anxiety and depression have no business stopping you being there.

Shame and Low Self Esteem are the strongest prisons, and hold more of us at bay that all the dictatorships and prisons on earth combined. And the symptoms and Anxiety and Depression are the guards of those prisons and the wasps in our porch keeping us there.

We should have enthusiasm as we venture out into the world, unhindered by guilt. God commands us to go forth and multiply, sharing our gifts of talent God has given us.

Start changing your life with a strong look at your good points, and you have many! This world is full of beautiful and very talented masters of some wonderful skills and potentials.

That includes you too, dear visitor!
