Depression Self Help The Good Things in Our Past
Depression Self Help How Anxiety and Depression Works on Our Mind No matter what type of depression we have, at some point distorted thinking, much like happens with emotional abuse, will play a factor in our suffering. The reason which this happens is over time, the sad things we experience will begin to wear on our self esteem and morale. When we lose hope of recovery, we begin to see things in a darker perspective, and no longer fight the fight. We may cease to look for answers, and at this point it changes our way of thinking. There is no life so dark and barren that not one good thing was experienced in our past. One positive thing we can do is to go back in our past, as far as we need to, and look for all the bright things. Depression Self Help The Good Things in Our Past These bright things we are looking for may be people we have met, places we have been, things we have seen, and lastly events we have experienced. Make a list of these highlights and focus on them. Tell yourself, 'these are the foundation of my life,' because they are. Why are not the 'bad' and the 'missing' the foundation? We will explain that in a moment. Depression Self Help and Reminiscing To start our healing we must look back at our life with enjoyment and remembrance of the good, and not with regret and remorse of that which is missing. There will be a time later in our therapy where we will revisit our past suffering and pain, but not for this first step. Please put the 'mistakes and missed opportunities' view aside for now because it will do you no good without accomplishing this therapy step first. Part of the problem is we may have been focusing too much on our suffering, and that has changed our brain chemistry. Lay that aside for now and focus on the positive. The more we can see the simple good events in our past, just for what they were, the more we can cultivate enthusiasm for our future. The two are connected. Depression Self Help Why Lay the Negative Aside for Now If we know of one hundred bad people, and know only one good person, what was in the relationship with that singular good person is the significant and beautiful energy to heal our depression. What bad happened with the other one hundred negative people is largely irrelevant, for this step in healing. This applies not only to the good people we have known, but to the good places we have been, the wonderful things we have had or seen, and the good events that have happened to us as well. Depression Self Help and God and Life's Hidden Messages Remember the good day you had fishing with your dad before he was killed? Focus on the good day of fishing, and not on the loss of your father. Why do that? Because the purpose of your being on this earth is not contained in the tragic loss of your father, it is contained in the fishing trip before the loss. Embrace every moment of that fishing trip in all its simplicity just for what it was. That good event was your 'moment in time, ' and your 'appointment with God.' Depression Self Help Why we do not think about the bad and the confusing things All the bad things, the missing things and the confusing things are just the dirt, and the singular good things and people are the gold, silver, platinum, gems, and minerals hidden in that vast quantity of that dirt. The real messages God is trying to send us are in the good and pleasant things, and none of god's will about us is contained in the bad at all. Depression Self Help God's Direction versus Gods Inspiration The bad events and missing people and things have steered our life to one direction or purpose. God uses those negatives to direct our lives, but it is the momentum from inspiration in focusing on the good things, that God wishes to propel us in that direction we have been steered. Meditate on the positive and fleeting good moments, and all the feelings you can remember in them and that will become your well of insight and inspiration for what you should do next. As you get that sense of direction, then your Peace and Contentment will come. All of this focusing on the good things has a medical and biological purpose as well as we shall soon see. We can duplicate with choiceful positive thoughts what medicines effect chemically, and with better results!
