Depression and Anxiety are conditions we can cure if we understand a few things. Information on our condition is very important. If we learn the life skills to process our feelings, and do the steps to minimize our medical needs, we can lead a balanced and controlled life, but it will take discipline and reaching out to others for comfort and support, you cannot do this on your own.

First, they are not conditions that develop over night. They are conditions, which come into our lives over a long period of time when we ignore certain aspects of ourselves. Both depression and anxiety happen like mountain formations, very slowly. Emotionally they are like geologic developments; they are not like a storm cloud that blows into our lives on a breezy sunny summer afternoon out of nowhere. The second bit of information you need to know is that depression and anxiety happens in our lives if we ignore our feelings and do not respond to what our feelings are telling us to do.

There is some basic information you need to know when talking with others or caregivers. There are two causes of depression and anxiety. The first can be a purely medical cause where deficiencies in the brain will trigger emotions out of touch with the life we actually experience. The second cause is emotional, where the sufferer has learned to hide their emotions and avoid addressing the issues, which cause those feelings. This causes the emotional debt to pile up and eventually the emotional debt will come due in a big explosion. If the sufferer has any propensity to ignore their feelings, either medically caused, or emotionally caused, their ignoring their feelings on a daily basis will greatly magnify their symptoms. We classify depression and anxiety by their causes, either medical (clinical) or emotional. In treating either cause, we need to be aware of our feelings and respond to them positively on a daily basis. This information is very important to understand!



And now a word about the most serious side of emotional need, and that is the grave behavior of child abuse and sexual abuse. Extreme emotional need manifests itself in two areas, the first is in depression and anxiety in all its forms, and the second is in the propensity to abuse and violate others. While we here address emotional need by nurturement of the depressed individual, we must also consider our civic obligation we all bear to our neighbors in our communities, in the second area. The more ignored feelings we harbor in our hearts, the more our steam kettle builds up pressure, the more pressure, the more distortion. The more distortion, the more the sense of powerlessness and finally we blow up. Your heart is more than the organ that pumps blood. Your heart is an antenna that connects you to all life. When you or a loved one has a heart surgery or transplant, the spiritual connection will disrupt for a while and cause depression. Are you getting steady good nutrition, not sporadic with high amounts of sugar? Sugar blood levels that go up and down like a roller coaster are not a good foundation for a good emotional assessment of your self. Eating complex sugar, (carbohydrates) that burn slowly and break down over hours instead of minutes or seconds is very important. Lastly, are you drinking enough water? Yes, water and hydration is necessary to your body’s sense of well being. Did you know that your body has a sense of well being about itself? You body has a sense of feelings about itself outside of your conscious emotions! Let your body talk to you and tell you what it is feeling. More about all this later.

Expand outwards to include your friends and family. Are they nurturing and positive, and contributing to your overall sense of well-being? We have known families that were anything but loving and nurturing! Our family was a bunch of parasitic poisoners who wanted nothing from us but a free ride. That was hardly a help for our getting over our depression, and overcoming our terrible anxiety!

Look closely at your employment and work life? Are you doing the kind of work that you love to do? Is it satisfying and does it meet your financial needs? What about the company you work for and your management and coworkers, are they nurturing and supportive? Your emotional needs at work are a big influence on your overall quality of life since you spend so much time there. Do not think that you can ignore your emotional needs at work because there is no other job you can do. The fact is you can find other work and get any poisoning influence out of your life, because you do have choices, and you do have options, repeat after me “I do have choices and I do have options.” Say it aloud right now to yourself.

We want you to look at your depression and anxiety matter in a spiritual context for a second to drive home a very important point. God did not give you a life damaging condition that you cannot do anything about to overcome. He gave it to you to teach you something about yourself. That something is that you can overcome it. Whatever is causing it in your life; you can rid your life of it, if you can find the cause. You do not have to live with it because it is your job, or your relatives, or you hometown economy or whatever. God wants your victory and your happiness. If you look for the cause, and you look for another replacement for whatever is causing it, you will find it. It may be another boss, another apartment, another city to live in, another husband, wife, or loved ones to replace your relatives if abuse is involved. Whatever is causing it in your life, either internally or externally, it has a better replacement out there somewhere, we promise. That is the information we want you to learn above all else right now, for that is the foundation for a new beginning.
